Coyote attacks, kills dog

A chihuahua probably looks likes a big rat to a coyote.

Instead of going after an animal whose territory is being invaded why don't they go after the idiot who had a very small dog running loose? The odds of hitting the Lotto are better then finding "that" coyote. If you don't want your pet to become a meal for a coyote keep them indoors, on a leash or in a protected area, especially cats.

The sheriff is uninformed when it comes to the coyote and the problems it causes in his city. I live in Carson City and have seen them around Lowe's the state capital buildings downtown, at the intersection of College and Hwy 50 and on the north side by Hwy 580. To name a few locations. Animal control in Carson City REFUSES to do anything about the problem. They find it more important to HARASS people about their personal dogs. The big problem in Carson City is STRAY CATS and the people that feed them, like the stupid woman across the street from where we live. This has made a sweet tasty food source for the coyotes and they have been seen in our neighborhood catching them. This also endangers the family pet that they'll also catch and eat. Carson City Animal Control, refuses to trap stray cats nor doesn't require cats to be licensed to track strays. Sooner or later, someone's small child WILL be attacked by these animals and the rabies shots required afterward are extremely painful not only life threatening. Just the simple fact that they are around people at the HS shows their lack of fear of humans. And believe me they have no fear of humans.

Coyotes are one thing BUT what about abandoned domesticated DOGs that are running in small packs in the hills in the back of SunValley? They are down right frightening. The first encounter with these dozen diffrent size/ breed dogs was when 2 friends and I were sitting in my car looking out over the valley it was about 9pm we were talking WHEN A PACK OF DOGs attacked my car literally, ONE smashed into my window lucky for MY FACE it was up. I DROVE AWAY with these dogs running after it was unreal. The second time I was alone riding my dirt bikesame area but it was NOON I stopped in a gully turned off my bike was fixing my helmet when I HERD RUNNING I LOOKED towards the noise and to my SHOCK SEEN this PACK OF DOGs running towards me I TOOK OFF and from now on WHEN I GO OUT THERE I WLL be armed. THESE DOGS ARE dangerous. The coyotes lack of food could be because of these abandoned domesticated dogs that have turned wild and are eating everything ???????? .

Thanks to the BLM's "wisdom" in tampering with the food chain,the coyotes are finding it harder to find food in the wild and are having to come closer to cities to find food. My condolences to the dog's family for their loss.

What do you expect? Us humans are hogging all the land. Should we start rounding them up and selling them off for burger meat?

I'm so sorry for the dog and his family. I ride horses in the foothills and always take my 2 dogs. I've never had a problem with coyotes until recently. Last week I had a coyote follow us, stalking the dogs. I tried to run him off with my horse and he barely moved. He followed us about 3 miles back to the horse trailer and sat on a hill watching us. Yesterday I had one follow keeping about 200 yards from us. I had 4 dogs with me and he was not the least bit intimidated. So people need to be wary. I hope this is not a new trend of braver animals. I'm out there in the mountains and hills where the coyotes are not exposed to people that much and should be afraid.
