INDIAN HILLS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Convicted killer Darren Mack this week was transferred from the Ely State Prison to the High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, close to Las Vegas.
Prison officials were not available for comment Friday to explain why he was transferred.
Darren Mack is appealing his conviction of murdering his wife and attempted murder of Judge Weller. The appeal was filed in Federal Court in early 2012. Mack claims he had ineffective counsel during his trial and during those appeals.
Darren Mack was sentenced for stabbing his wife to death in 2006, and then shooting the judge who oversaw their divorce case. Mack has claimed self-defense in the stabbing of his wife, saying she first tried to shoot him. He says his lawyers were ineffective, by going to trial with claims of insanity, instead of pure self-defense.
