SPARKS, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Officials are saying the fire that killed one woman and injured one man started just after 8 p.m. Thursday evening in the 3300 block of Shari Way. A neighbor living behind the home called the fire department.
When fire fighters arrived, they found two people in the home and brought them outside while fighting the fire. The home was occupied by an elderly male and an elderly female.
The man was taken to the hospital and later flown to the UC Davis Burn Center for treatment. Sparks Fire and REMSA personnel tried to revive the woman, but they were unsuccessful.
A preliminary report says the origin of the fire was in the north east bedroom, on the bottom right corner of the bed. All indicators from the fire investigation point to improper use of smoking materials as the cause. The names of the victims are still being withheld at this time.

According to a press release, the blaze happened in the 3300-block of Shari Way. The Sparks Fire Department responded to the call just before 8:30 p.m. When fire personnel arrived, they found two occupants in the house.
The occupants of the house were an elderly male and an elderly female. Sparks Fire and REMSA personnel attempted to revive the female, but were not successful. The male was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, the extent of which has not been determined.
At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation by Sparks Fire Department investigators. The names of the victims are being withheld.
