Deputies: Pulled-over driver tells deputies there is a bomb in his car

STATELINE, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy tell News 4 they stopped 29-year-old Adam Smith from Minden just before 11pm on March 30, 2013 at Highway 50 and Kahle Drive.

Smith was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. At the time, Deputies say they noticed a wire from the front seat to the trunk. They asked Smith about the wire.  Deputies say Smith told them, “It’s a Bomb”.

Nevada Highway Patrol, the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department, the Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad, FBI and the Nevada Department of Transportation were called to the scene. Highway 50 was closed and traffic had to be diverted around the scene for several hours while, the bomb squad investigated the vehicle.

Eventually at about 4:00 am, it was determined that this was a hoax and no explosives were located inside the vehicle.

Smith’s has been booked into the jail on charges of DUI and Bomb Threat with a bail amount of $26,500. Smith was driving black Dodge SRT8.
