FERNLEY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Bite wounds riddle Snowball's body. A reminder of the shock the Pomeranian and her owner Katy McDaniel endured just hours before.

"She's got a pretty good puncture wound on her side," said McDaniel, "I had to clean that up."

McDaniel said her nightmare began Wednesday evening when she stepped out of her house on Aspen Way to check her mail. That's when, she said, a dog she doesn't know started attacking her.

"The dog was coming at me and so I just stomped my foot and said no, stop."

She said that's when the dog bolted into her house, and went straight for her Pomeranian, Foxy.

"Picked her up and started throwing her around," she said. "She was just covered in blood."

McDaniel said she was able to get the dog away from her, but it was too late, Foxy was already dead.

"It took Snowball into the bedroom, back behind the bed, and was shaking her."

So she said she grabbed a gun, and shot the dog, that she described as a Pit Mix, and held it down until animal control and police arrived.

"It was like oh my god, I just can't believe it happened."

Remarkably, besides a few bite wounds, Snowball is doing fine. But McDaniel said Foxy's death should serve as a reminder to other dog owners.

"Don't let your dog run loose, put a tag on them, a collar."

Fernley Animal Control said that the Lyon County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the dog and the attack. They would not provide any further comment on the condition of the dog.

I looked up pitbull attacks on yahoo other day and to me this is a non stop problem with pittbull owners and I think there needs to be laws to protect people and thier animals against the dogs and prison time for the owners that let them run loose and also micro all pitbulls to find the owners that do not keep them fenced in . Everyone should take a look on yahoo and look at the pictures of the babies they have attacked and killed . I really like how the pitbull owners cry that thier dog would never attack anyone , which is a total laugh . These dogs were breed to kill . Pit bull attacks in the last six months: May 10: Alex Cuevas, 15, and her dog Cocoa, a 14-month-old Shih Tzu, were mauled while walking in their Corona neighborhood. Alex’s ear was nearly severed and had to be reattached by a surgeon. Cocoa had to have an eye reinserted into its socket by a veterinarian. The dog responsible for the attack was euthanized. May 8: A pit bull attacked... a sheriff’s deputy and bit a second officer during a foot chase of a burglary suspect in Lake Mathews. The deputies fatally shot the dog. April 20: Margarita Negrete, 74, suffered severe head wounds when she was attacked at her Colton home by the family pit bull, which also killed another family dog. The dog later charged police, who shot it dead. April 8: A 57-year-old woman was bitten and scratched on her hands and her dachshund was killed by two pit bulls in Hemet. One of the dogs was captured, the other escaped. March 5: Bruna Secco, 76, was bit and suffered broken ribs in an attack by a pit bull near her San Jacinto mobile home. She was rescued by onlookers who beat the dog with baseball bats; the dog was euthanized. Feb. 8: Elsie Grace, 91, was mauled to death by two family pit bulls in a Hemet hotel room. Jan. 17: Waly Nichols, 84, was critically injured by two pit bulls as she walked near her home in Jurupa Valley. The dogs were euthanized and their owner was cited .

I don't know why people have Pitbulls/Mixes in the first place 8 out 10 people don't care/love those stupid dogs. I was chased & bitten on the foot by a Pitbull many years ago, have the scar to prove it. Good thing I was fast...I hoped on top of a car, screaming my head off and good thing a neighbor came out to see what was going on. Cops came and shot that stupid dog. The Pitbull owner tried to sue me for the cost of his dog...I in turn took him to court and he ended up paying me $5,400/pain and suffering. 7 years later he has 3 more Pitbulls. One day those Pitbulls are going to attack them poor kids - I have since moved, no way in hell I was going to live next door to 3 Pitbulls.

Very sad thing that took place, but as to go as far as to say, " I hope that pit dies" is pure evil! Hmmmm until you personally have actually " been attacked" by a pit bull who let me tell you are some of the sweetest breeds in my book, do me a favor and "SHUT IT"

Dog was hit in the hip, odds are it survived. Hurt it enough to let go of snowball and come out from under the bed.

We had a male and female pit here on our property last year that would not let us out of our house. We have 3 large outside dogs that we had to get into the house for safety. A/C and a deputy came out. Those dogs damn near got shot by the deputy and my hubby. Both were red/white and the female had new pups somewhere. We never found the pups and the female was captured but the male took off. He was found a few days later across town terrorizing another house. The female was chipped so the original owner was called and picked the dog up from A/C but the female was the most aggressive of the two and should have been put down or shot that day. Irresponsible dogs owners need to be fined heavily, so heavy that the cannot get their dogs back. This is a sad story and I hope that lady was a good shot and that the pit dies.

If that would have happened on my property, offending dog would not be alive. KUDOS to the woman for having a gun or quick access to one to defend her property.
