RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- According to Phillip Ullibarri with the Washoe County Health District, the county's Chief Health Officer, Dr. Joseph Iser, has officially resigned.

Iser was present for today's health district meeting and informed the district board of his decision, said Ullibarri.

Matt Smith, Chairman of the Health District Board, said that Iser resigned due to health and personal reasons and his resignation is effective at midnight tonight. Kevin Dick will serve as Interim Health District Officer for the time being.

Iser read his resignation letter to the board and Smith signed a settlement agreement with Iser and his resignation letter. Smith tells News 4 that he wishes Iser only the best and understands his reasons for resigning.

Iser, a former Director of Public Health and Public Health Officer for Nevada County and Yolo County, California, assumed the position of Washoe County District Health Officer in 2011 after replacing Interim Health Officer, Mary-Ann Brown, RN, MSN, who served for six months as the District Board of Health.
