RENO, Nev. (AP, MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Hunters from New Mexico, North Dakota and California have joined a pair of locals as winners of five premier hunting tags in the Nevada Dream Tag raffle.

Winners of the annual fundraising raffle were drawn on July 1 from the pool of those who paid $5 per chance at a tag.

In the past 20 years, wildfires in Nevada have ravaged more than 13 million acres of crucial habitat. In two years, the Nevada Dream Tag Program has been able to donate a total of $324,200 to habitat projects.

This year, Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy says the raffle brought in more than $300,000 for wildlife habitat rehabilitation projects. Winners of the annual fundraising raffle were drawn on July 1 from the pool of those who paid $5 per chance at a tag.

The Nevada Dream Tag allows resident and nonresident sportsmen a chance to hunt while also contributing to Nevada’s wildlife habitat. The tags are similar to other western states’ raffle tags and “hunt of a lifetime” tags. Raffle tickets went for antelope, California bighorn sheep, mule deer, desert (Nelson) bighorn sheep and elk.

John Koster of Gardnerville won the tag for antelope, while David Cochran of Genoa won the tag for desert bighorn sheep. The tag to hunt California bighorn sheep went to Claude Sanchez of Albuquerque. Myron Jahner of Baldwin, North Dakota won the elk tag while Ronald Lara of Chico, California picked up the one for mule deer.
