SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The El Dorado County DA's office says they are dropping charges against the man accused of bribing a South Lake Tahoe City councilwoman.

The DA's office said in a statement they have been working with federal authorities and the suspect Gino DiMatteo's criminal activities may be more appropriately dealt with in federal court.

Right now, DiMatteo has been arrested by the feds, but News 4 won't know what the charges are until Monday at the earliest because the case is sealed.

DiMatteo was accused of attempting to bribe councilwoman Angela Swanson with a donation to a charity she's on the board of.

News 4 will continue to follow this developing story.
