ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Noble Energy officials say it may still be as far as a decade away, but they're confident they'll be drilling for oil in northeast Nevada eventually.
Elko County's Huntington Valley, about 20 miles south of Elko near Jiggs, is a top prospect for the black crude in region typically known most for its wealth of gold. The company also has focused in recent years on Starr Valley and Mary's River.
Noble Energy business unit manager Kevin Vorhaben says the area has "real potential."
The Elko Daily Free Press reports Vorhaben discussed the company's plans this week during a public scoping meeting for the Huntington Valley project hosted by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
The BLM is accepting public comment on the project through Dec. 13.
