ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The price of gasoline is going up in Elko County.
The Elko County Commission voted 4-1 on Wednesday to increase the local gas tax by 2.5 cents to a total of 9 cents per gallon. That's the maximum county gas tax allowed under state law.
Elko Mayor Chris Johnson was among those to speak in favor of the increase due to the need for revenue for road construction and repair.
Commissioner Demar Dahl cast the lone "no" vote.
Towns and cities in Elko County also will receive a share of the money.
County officials say it will take a few months to implement the increase.
