Reno, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com)-- On Saturday, January 12, the Reno Elks Lodge hosted their annual Elks National Basketball Freethrow contest.
This was the event's 40th consecutive year. In the contest, boys and girls ages 8-13 each took 25 free throws, competing to get the best score.
The winner of this freethrow shootout will go on to compete for the opportunity to represent Northern Nevada on January 26th. Winners from that tournament will go on to compete in a state competition in February, and could end up in the national finals later this spring. More than 2.5 million children compete in the Elks National Basketball Freethrow contest nationwide.
Organizers say that the contest is not only fun for children, but that it helps teach good sportsmanship and the importance of staying active.
