Ely BLM taking applications for summer fire work

ELY, Nev. (AP) — Federal officials in Ely are accepting applications for seasonal wildfire suppression work in Caliente, Ely and Pony Springs.

Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Hanefend says applications submitted by Jan. 14 to the BLM Ely District office receive first consideration, but applications will be accepted by through March 31.

Temporary positions are available on fire engines, helicopter attack and dispatch. Salaries range from about $11 to $15 per hour, depending on experience.

Appointment length varies, but cannot exceed 180 days excluding overtime and training.

The normal term is from May through mid-September.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18 years of age or older, and must complete a physical examination, drug screening and a timed three-mile hike with a 45-pound pack.

Applications must be submitted online at usajobs.gov.
