CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The former commanding officer of Camp Pendleton in California has been chosen as city manager of Carson City.

Retired Marine Col. Nick Marano, who held the position at the Marine Corps' largest West Coast training facility from 2009 to 2012, was the unanimous selection of Carson City supervisors on Friday.

The Nevada Appeal reports his selection followed public interviews with four other finalists, all of whom have administrative experience in Nevada. There were 70 applicants for the post.

Marano, who became a management consultant after he retired from the military, led a diverse workforce of 6,000 federal employees, Marines and contractors serving more than 60,000 active-duty personnel and their families at Camp Pendleton.
