ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The district attorney prosecuting an ex-prostitute accused of attempted murder says her brutal hammer attack of a co-worker at a northeast Nevada brothel last summer stemmed from a simmering dispute over missing beer.

Elko County Deputy DA Mark Mills says 50-year-old Lisa Wong screamed she was going to kill Sang Fowler as she beat her repeatedly in the head with a claw hammer at Sharon's Bar and Brothel in Carlin Aug. 18. He said the trouble started days before when Wong overheard Fowler tell Fowler's 79-year-old mother two beers were missing from the bar.

Wong's public defender says evidence will show it was actually Fowler who instigated the fight.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports the district court trial is expected to continue into Friday.
