RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Fact Finder team is learning more tonight about the multimillion dollar settlement between Renown Medical Center and a group of local cardiologists.
On Monday, as that trial was beginning its fourth week, Renown settled the case agreeing to pay $5 million to the 12 cardiologists who had sued over a contract dispute with Renown.
The attorney for the cardiologists says some damaging evidence surfaced that convinced Renown to settle the case, but he would not elaborate.
Also, as part of the settlement, The cardiologists will have a chance to air their concerns about Renown management directly to Renown's Board of Directors.
This court settlement comes on the heels of an FTC ruling, which ordered Renown to release its cardiologists from their non-compete clauses. The FTC ruled Renown held a near monopoly on the cardiology business in northern Nevada, which it said, was not beneficial for patients.
So far, Renown has declined to comment on this week's court settlement.
