RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Five Navy Region Southwest Commands were selected Mar. 14, 2014 as winners of the annual Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Environmental Awards program for 2013, and Fallon tops that list.
The program recognizes Navy ships, installations, individuals, and teams for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to improve the environmental performance of our Navy.
“I’m pleased that out of 54 nominations from commands around the world, our installations placed in 5 of 10 categories. Our dedicated regional environmental team works hard day-in and day-out to ensure protection of the environment. Our hallmark program is a testament of Navy’s commitment to sound environmental practices,” said Kathy Stewart, Navy Region Southwest, shore installation environmental program director.
Environmental experts from the Navy and representatives from non-government organizations evaluated the nominations and selected the following Navy Region Southwest installations as winners:
-Naval Base Point Loma
-Naval Air Station Fallon
-Naval Support Activity Monterey
-Naval Base Ventura County
-Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach
“People always make the difference; I applaud each of our installation commanding officers and staff for their commitment to environmental excellence which represents the Navy’s best. Their accomplishments clearly demonstrate that success in environmental compliance, conservation, and stewardship enhances our war fighting mission,” said RADM Patrick Lorge, commander, Navy Region Southwest.
All five NRSW installations now advance to the Secretary of the Navy Environmental Awards competition.
