WASHINGTON D.C. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The National Transportation Safety Board has issued 20 safety recommendations in the wake of a deadly crash involving a tractor trailer and an Amtrak train that killed six people last year.
An investigation panel showed evidence of a crossing gate fully extended well before the fiery crash.
Federal experts determined earlier that a truck driver skidded nearly 300 feet before slamming into the side of the train at a rural crossing.
NTSB Chairman Deborah Hersman says the driver had plenty of time to see the lights and stop for the train.
She also said the truck's brakes were quote "not properly maintained."
