RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The federal government has dropped one charge against Harvey Whittemore.

Last month, a jury convicted the former lobbyist of three counts related to illegal campaign contributions to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's 2008 reelection campaign.

The jury deadlocked on the fourth count of lying to the FBI and Judge Larry Hicks declared a mistrial on that count.

Government prosecutors have decided not to re-try Whittemore on that charge. Although, they reserve the right to change that decision down the road.
