RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The man who designed Nevada's statehood stamp is giving out a few hints before the final design is unveiled in Las Vegas.

This stamp celebrates the 150th anniversary of Nevada, and is part of the year-long celebration coordinated by Nevada's Sesquicentennial Committee. We got a sneak peak at the inspiration for the background the of the stamp and spoke with acclaimed Reno artist Ron Spears about what inspired him for the final design.

"I spent two years traveling around Nevada taking photographs and paintings on location. I submitted the 15 that you see, behind here (are) original designs for the stamp and that helped narrow down the focus onto the valley of fire," Spears said.

The stamp will be unveiled May 29 in Las Vegas and available for purchase nationwide the next day.
