Fire near Hawthorne now 14,300 acres, 15% contained

UPDATE - 3:33PM - The fire is now 14,300 acres in size and could be contained by 5pm, according to Mark Regan, Public Information Officer for North Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

HAWTHORNE, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Spring Peak Fire burning near Hawthorne is now 12,600 acres in size and 15 percent contained.

Sierra Front says full containment is expected by Aug. 25.

The fire has crossed into California and is within three miles of Bodie State Historical Park, where fire engines are in place/dozer lines being improved to provide structure protection. A voluntary evacuation remains in place for the Borealis and Esmeralda Mines.
