Reno, Nev. (KRNV & Mynews4.com) - First Lady Kathleen Sandoval will mark “Read Across America Day” by reading aloud to 50 second-grade students at Sierra Vista Elementary in Reno tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
The event is sponsored by Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), and each participating child will receive a free book of his or her choice to take home at the end of the day. The WCSD Read and Succeed's RIF program serves 21 sites and reaches more than 2,800 children.
Sandoval is a member of the RIF First Spouses Circle, a coalition of governors' spouses committed to serving as children's literacy leaders in their communities and to advancing literacy nationwide.
Since 1966, RIF has distributed 400 million free, new books to more than 35 million children. RIF provided four million children with 15 million books and literacy resources last year.
