RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- We haven't hit the peak of flu season yet, but flu activity in Washoe County has been steadily rising since the season officially began on September 29.
According to the Washoe County Health District, they continue to receive weekly flu-like illness data from 12 providers. Based on the data, Washoe County has exceeded the state, regional, and national baselines of flu-like illnesses.
The dominant strain is H1N1, which mostly affects young and middle age adults. That strain is included in this year's flu vaccine, which experts say is the best way to protect yourself from the illness.
CDC officials recommend everyone over age six months get a flu shot, and say it is not too late to get one now.
