Reno, NV (MyNews4.com) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks signed former Nevada Ace, Braden Shipley, to a base contract with a $2.25 million signing bonus. Shipley was drafted in the first round (15th overall) by the Diamondbacks in the 2013 MLB Draft. He became the highest drafted player in the history of Nevada athletics.
The righty throws mid-90's and touches 98-99mph. He also has a killer curve and a changeup that locked the knees of many batter's he faced last season. In 107 innings as a junior, Shipley had 102 strike outs with a 2.77 ERA. He's expected to begin his MLB journey with Arizona's Single-A affiliate, the Hillsboro Hops.
