RENO, NEV. (Mynews4.com & KRNV)--A fundraiser is happening on July 27th to help a local father who is coping with congestive heart failure."When something like this attacks your family, it can destroy it, or it can make it better," said Danny Utu.
That positive energy has kept Danny going. A couple months ago, he had flu like symptoms that wouldn't go away. He even went to the doctor and was given antibiotics for what they thought was pneumonia, but little did he know, he had congestive heart failure.
"I'm not an old guy, I'm not an unhealthy guy, I'm just a normal every day father, and this thing came on hard, it came on really hard," Danny said.
Danny's doctor, Dr. Sridevi, put a defibrillator in his heart, knowing this may just be a temporary fix. Danny may eventually need a heart transplant.
"This has been a really hard thing for our family, he's an amazing husband, he's an amazing father, he's done so much in our community in general," said Danny's wife, Jennifer Utu.
Danny and Jennifer have three children, Giana who's 7 months old, 2-year-old Mikayla, and 8-year-old Luke.
"I love my daddy so much" Luke said.
This whole ordeal has not only been difficult for the family emotionally, but also financially. A fundraiser will be held Sunday, July 27th, not only to raise money for the family, but also to promote the importance of organ donation.
"This fundraiser for us is extremely important. It's something to get the word out for this congestive heart failure, to let people know how dangerous it is. If I would have went a couple more days being the stubborn guy that I was, I might not have made it," Danny said.
For now Danny says he has to take life one day at a time, and be thankful for every moment he gets to spend with his family.
"It's hard sometimes as a man and as a father to accept help from people, but with this community they didn't even give us a chance to say no, everybody was there before we could even blink an eye," Danny said.
The fundraiser will he held Sunday, July 27th at Sparky's on Prater Way. The event begins at 4pm. There will be live music, drink and food specials and a silent auction. If you can't make it but would still like to help the family, you can make a donation at any Bank of America. The account number is 501006302269. The routing number is 122400724.
