Gala to raise money for children's Type 1 Diabetes research

RENO, Nev. (KRNV & --One of the largest fundraisers of its kind in the region is getting ready to kick off to raise awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

More than 800 people are expected to attend the JDRF Vision Gala on Saturday, April 27th in the Reno Ballroom at 6 p.m.

The James Bond themed event will feature live entertainment along with a silent and live auctions to raise funds and awareness for children with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).

According to JDRF board member Allyson Edgington the goal is to raise $1 million for research.

This year's event will honor the Carano Family for their continued support in the search for a cure. For six years, the Caranos have hosted the JDRF Vision Gala in the Reno Ballroom. They have contributed auction items and supported other JDRF events including the Walk to Cure Diabetes.

According to JDRF, diabetes is the single most costly chronic disease and more than 24 million American adults and children suffer from this chronic, debilitating disease.
