CARSON CITY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and the Nevada Advisory Council for Prosecuting Attorneys named Washoe County District Attorney Richard A. Gammick as recipient of the 2013 William J. Raggio Award.
This award is presented annually to a current or former prosecutor who has contributed significantly to the improvement of the administration of justice in Nevada.
Gammick has served as Washoe County District Attorney for 19 years and five terms, the last of which expires at the end of 2014 when he will retire. He served as Deputy District Attorney and Chief Deputy District Attorney of Washoe County before being elected District Attorney in 1994. Prior to his career as a prosecutor, Gammick was a Reno Police Officer, a Major in the United States Army (with a combat tour in Vietnam) and Nevada National Guard, and a legal advisor to the Reno Police Department as a Deputy Reno City Attorney.
The award is named in honor of former Washoe County District Attorney and former Senator William J. Raggio.
