RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Nevada is another step closer to selling medical marijuana. On Friday, the state adopted regulations governing these new businesses.

There are many vying to open one of these new businesses. When it comes to selling medical marijuana, there is a one group in northern Nevada that might surprise you.

The potential owners are all mothers, and they want to sell medical marijuana. "We don't have attorneys, we don't have lobbyists," said . "We're moms wanting to bring a dispensary in the north and a dispensary in the south for some of Nevada's sickest children."

These moms all have children with special needs. They all have children that are benefiting from the use of medical marijuana. Abbi and Cassi Hempel are 10-year-old twins. It is not easy for their mother, Chris, to get them medical marijuana and it is very expensive. But it is critical to the twins' care, because it stops their grand mal seizures.

"Most of the people that are going after these licenses are really interested in the THC strains and that's what gets people high," said Hempel. "We have more interest in just the CDB types of strains."

These women say opening a dispensary will put them in a position to control the product. "I'm not going to leave it up to some strip club owner or a casino owner to make medicine for my children."

Hempel shows the difference between a crudely-made product that was cooked on a stove, and a pharmaceutical-grade medicine. These women say in addition to quality, they also want be able to control the prices. "That it's not this outrageous price. That maybe someone that has never experienced adversity in their life will drive the cost so far up, that it is unattainable for families that are already in medical devastation."

There are at least 400 applications for a dispensary in Clark County, but the regulations will only allow ten in the county.

In Washoe County, it is not known how many are vying to open a dispensary, but like Clark County, there will only be ten allowed.

I am all for this cause but I have noticed some negative connotation being associated with THC. The National Cancer Institute even points to the anti-tumor (cancer killing) properties of specifically THC. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/cannabis/healthprofessional/page4 I am not for THC only drugs such as marinol, since the CBD's, CBN's and 80 other chemicals that make up cannabis are not present. I just have been hearing a lot of "get the benefits with out the high" arguments for CBD and CBN products. In actuality THC is also very therapeutic it is not just there to "get you high" as it also contains many health benefits. Im just saying that because something has a psychoactive effect doesn't mean its other effects such as appetite stimulation, anti-tumor, anti-depressant, treating M.S., and pain suppressant are not noteworthy. The main reasoning behind this argument (of not wanting THC) is to put shame on things that are pleasurable as well as the concern of children's brain development. Here is a good unbiased look into the scientific studies on cannabis effects on the brain.. http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view.answers.php?questionID=000235 THC is definitely much less harmful than adderall, prozac, ritalin, and all the other pharmaceuticals that children are being fed in this country everyday.
