STATELINE, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Horizon Casino in south shore Tahoe sits empty now, but could highlight the Stateline strip by the end of the year.
Hard Rock Café Hotel and Casino Lake Tahoe is set to open at the old Horizon location in December.
Hard Rock Las Vegas owners purchased the Horizon property in March and will spend $60 million in renovations. The casino floor and pool are getting makeovers, along with restaurants, bars, hotel rooms and live music venues.
Co-owner John Park said the Hard Rock brand reflects fun, excitement and energy. "We’ve always had some thoughts over the years on how we were going to transform this property. Given the opportunity to do so, this just gave us the chance to implement that plan."
Heavenly officials said the two will work together to bring skiers and snowboarders to the area. "Heavenly as a brand really goes after young mellennials," said Tahoe Vail Marketing Director John Wagner. "We kind of incorporate music and entertainment into our brand."
There are no plans as of now to remove the Hard Rock Café out of Harvey’s Lake Tahoe Casino next door.
