RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Nevada Humane Society hosted its Hop-to-Adopt pet-a-thon yesterday, and for some families, it was the first time they visited the facility.

"It's kind of nice because we never really realized what was here. I think this is the first time we've all been here, so it's kind of nice to see. A realization of how many animals are out there for people to adopt."

There were hundreds of pets to adopt including cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, rats and guinea pigs. Special events like this help the no-kill shelter reach out to the community to facilitate more adoptions.

The shelter is open 7 days a week and helpful staff is always on hand to match hopeful families with one of their adoptable pets.
