Reno, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Texas roadhouse in South Seno is typically a busy place, but tonight, there were a few extra staff on hand. Led by NHP Trooper and Nevada Humane Society Board Member Chuck Allen and the Nevada Air National Guard members, patrons donated to help Hope, an orphaned young Daschund facing a challenging surgery. Proceeds from tonight’s fundraiser will benefit Hope’s medical bills and care at Nevada Humane Society.

At only four years old, Hope was struck by a car and left on the side of the road to die. Both of Hopes back legs have serious fractures, and she will need a number of surgeries before she is returned to health. Hope does have a good prognosis, though her recovery will be long.

“Radiographs of Hope have confirmed our initial fears—she was struck squarely by the car and the back half of her little body took the brunt of the trauma. Both of her hind legs have serious fractures, and she will need a number of surgeries before she is returned to health,” said Kevin Ryan, Chief Executive Officer for Nevada Humane Society. “Animals in need of dramatic medical interventions, like Hope, arrive at NHS far too often, but what many people don’t realize is that NHS is privately funded by generous individuals and families and the cost of surgeries like this can become overwhelming very quickly. We don’t receive funding from national organizations, nor the government, which is why we’re asking the community to donate to little Hope.”

"While we normally host this event to benefit all homeless pets, Hope’s story touched all of us and together we are aspiring to make a difference and help cover the high cost of Hope’s medical bills," said Allen. “Her surgical expenses are expected to exceed $5,000-and that doesn’t even include the post-operation care she will need at Nevada Humane Society. At Tips for Hope, our celebrity tips, which are in addition to regular servers’ gratuity, will be used directly for her care. This event has done well in the past but we hope it will be an even bigger success to benefit Hope.”

A local vet, who wishes to remain anonymous, offered his time and services to fix hope. The “Tips for Hope” fundraiser is an effort to help recoup those costs. While Hope faces a long road to recovery, there was no shortage of giving at tonight’s fundraiser. There wasn’t a single customer who when approached didn’t donate.

The “Tips for Hope” event raised a $4060. Not included in that total amount is the 10% of the total profits that will be donated on behalf of the Texas Roadhouse.

The cost of Hope’s medical treatment is expected to far exceed $5,000, putting a tremendous strain on shelter resources. If you would like to help, please make a donation to Nevada Humane Society’s Emily’s Fund for Injured Pets. Contributions are tax-deductible and can be sent to NHS at 2825-B Longley Lane, Reno, NV 89502 or credit card donations may be called into 775-856-2000, ext. 324
