RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- Several Washoe County inmates are finding the "right recipe" in turning their lives around and becoming useful members of society.

This morning, 10 Washoe County Detention Facility inmates were awarded their certificates for completing a nationally recognized food service safety course. Organizers of the program say it's one of many steps that will help the inmates become succesful in the food industry once they're released into society.

This is what all jails and prison needs, are programs to help the inmates when they get out. You have people going to jail for a long time and when they get out they can't do the simple jobs, so they end up back in jail because they can't support themselves, let alone a family if they have one. We've gotten away from training in prison and have taken the "Sheriff Joe mentality. So all we do with the prisons is breed career criminals.
