RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Nevada Department of Corrections reports that two inmates have escaped from custody.

At approximately 2 p.m., inmates Dustin Cottiero and Corey Gomez walked away from their work assignment with the Nevada Division of Forestry, while the work crew was performing work in the I-80 and McCarran area, near Robb Drive.

The Nevada Highway Patrol, Sparks Police Department and Reno Police Department have been notified and are assisting NDOC’s Northern Nevada Correctional Center staff and Inspector General’s Office in the apprehension of these two inmates.

Inmate Cottiero is serving 12 to 36 months for Attempted Burglary. Inmate Gomez was serving 36 to 96 months for Burglary and Resisting a Public Officer with a Weapon. Both inmates were assigned to the Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City.

For the people that said yes in the news 4 poll about having armed guards for inmates in work details! These are minimum security inmates you idiots! These same inmates can escape very easily from minimum security camps because even the officers in camps don't have weapons! There is typically a 10 ft. chain link fence around these types of institutions! I should know because I was a Lt. at one in Winnemucca for 16 yrs.!!!

"in the I-80 and McCarran area, near Robb Drive." Maybe you need to read the story a little better before you get snarky. That's a general area, not specific.

seems that a CC and a LV inmate have better Reno geography knowledge than local TV news

McCarran and Robb don't intersect. Nv4 may have seen these exits while texting on I-80
