CARSON CITY, Nev ( & KRNV) -- One neighborhood is reeling from a bizarre shooting on Thursday night. Investigators are still piecing together the details of what exactly happened.

Investigators say the entire ordeal stretches about three-quarters of a mile from one end of Desatoya Street, to the open fields behind the homes, and ultimately, the house where the shooting occurred.

Sheriff Ken Furlong says a man was in a bloody and drunken altercation at a home on Desatoya and Woodside road. He was reportedly seen in the fields behind the homes, allegedly "bleeding profusely". By the time deputies arrived, the man had already jumped back over the fence and into another home several blocks away.

"He crossed a pretty good distance, and into a house through an open garage door," Furlong said. "He actually passed into the living room area. A physical altercation took place between him and the residents. Both of the residents are senior citizens with disabilities."

The homeowner fired six shots from his 9-millimeter weapon as deputies were outside the house. One shot hit the intruder in the leg. He will recover from his injuries.

The elderly couple was treated for minor injuries. Investigators are still figuring out why exactly he entered that home.

Damn 9mm's. The spray and pray philosophy. People really need to arm themselves more efficiently and avoid the loss of good ammunition.
