RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- World champion eater and reigning rib-eating record holder Joey Chestnut will compete against his arch rival, Matt Stonie, at the Nugget’s World Rib-Eating Championship in Sparks.
The event, to be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, is part of the 26th annual 'Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off.'
The ninth annual World Rib-Eating Championship will feature some of the world’s finest competitive eaters, including Stonie, the number-two-ranked eater, the world gyoza-eating champion; Miki Sudo, the number-four-ranked eater (who has consumed 104 hard-boiled eggs in eight minutes); Michelle Lesco, and Crazy Legs Conti, the world sweet corn-and lumberjack breakfast-eating champion.
The competitor who downs the most rib meat from the bone in 12 minutes will be crowned the Best in the West Nugget Rib Eating Champion and presented with the lion’s share of the $5,000 cash purse. Last year, Chestnut set a new world record of 13.76 pounds of pork rib meat in 12 minutes.
“This is one of the high points of the summer eating circuit and features truly spectacular eating talent,” said Richard Shea, president of Major League Eating. “Stonie has beaten Chestnut in several recent contests, and he or Joey could achieve a new world record at this year’s event.”
The rib-eating contest will kickoff the 26nd Annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off -- a contest that draws more than 500,000 people each year. Featuring St. Louis style ribs, the contest will conform to the MLE judging model, in which ribs are weighed prior to the contest and then again after the contest to determine the exact amount of rib meat eaten by each competitor.
