ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada judge ordered a 21-year-old Elko man to serve three years' probation and pay $1,450 restitution for killing and butchering a rancher's cow, but not before she lectured him about the cruelty of the senseless crime.

Jayce J. Blevins pleaded guilty in August to attempted unlawful killing of an animal belonging to another person, a gross misdemeanor. He admitted shooting the cow last year and cutting meat from the hind quarters.

Judge Nancy Porter sentenced him Monday to six months in prison, but suspended the sentence if he completes 36 months' probation and abstains from alcohol.

Porter told Blevins that in addition to destroying someone's property, what he did was cruel.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports Blevins apologized and assured the judge she'll never see him again.

I would like to know what kind of hands on experience this female judge has in the slaughter house/butcher business. Chances are she's a radical female feminist who belongs to N.O.W. and is devoted to pushing the political correctness agenda. She's probably never stepped foot on a farm, been hunting,or stepped inside a slaughter house. The issue she should have put more thought into was the illegal taking of another man's livestock, in which the penalty should have been much more severe.

reminds me of the Austin Lounge Lizard's comedic song "Old Blevins". this guy and his alcohol problem is like a 'batman begins' saga

I don't condone this behavior but please explain how it was more cruel than sending the cow to be slaughtered or shooting a deer or elk?

Sounds almost as bad as the Carson City DA. The "Wal Mart" employee that lives arcoss the street from us has tried to poison are 3 puppies twice now. This summer one did die from her actions. ALL CAUGHT ON VIDEO SURVEILLANCE AS EVIDENCE! And the DA has still done nothing about it!
