RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Area law enforcement agencies are taking a proactive regional approach to enhance school safety across Washoe County in wake of the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy as well as concerns raised by predictions related to the Mayan Calendar and Dec. 21, 2012.

Enhanced patrols in and around Washoe County Schools will occur during the entire school day on Dec. 21. In addition, the Northern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center will be providing participating agencies with intelligence information, as it monitors conditions across the nation.

While no credible threats have been received in Washoe County, area law enforcement is working together to ensure the safety and security of students and faculty. Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity or threats they may see or hear related to our schools to their local law enforcement agency.
