CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Troubled Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks has not been seen around the state Legislature Tuesday, a day after being banished from the building.
Democratic Majority Leader William Horne notified Brooks in letter that he is on paid leave pending recommendations from a select committee named to investigate whether he is fit to serve.
In the letter, Horne says Brooks' recent arrests — the latest over the weekend for alleged domestic battery — have many fearing that Brooks is unable to fulfill his duties and "may present a direct threat to others in the building."
The drama surrounding Brooks began with his arrest Jan. 19 for allegedly threatening the Assembly speaker.
He was hospitalized the following week for a mental examination following a disturbance at his grandmother's home.
