RENO, Nev. (Mynews4.com & KRNV)-- The secret papal election is underway, the first vote will be cast Tuesday afternoon.

News 4 sat down with the Bishop of Reno Randolph Calvo and he says although the whole world is full of anticipation in Reno things are continuing as usual.

He says this isn't the first time we've gone through a papal election and the Diocese of Reno is going about their day to day business and pursuing their mission, but he maintains this is an important papal election.

And Bishop Calvo says the United States is well represented.

The U.S. has 11 of the 115 votes, making it the second largest national bloc after Italy.

Bishop calvo explained this is more than there's typically been in the past.

"We've had more Americans who have been promoted to work in the Vatican," Bishop Calvo says. "So there are more of those cardinals acquainted in the Vatican itself than we've had in the past."

We asked Bishop Calvo what qualities he would like to see in the next pope.

"First of all he has to be deeply spiritual has to be above all else a man of faith or else you're not going to survive that job," Bishop Calvo says.

Other than profound faith, Bishop Calvo says the future leader needs to have a spiritual vision for the church, have an ability to hear people throughout the world, and reach out to those people.

Bishop Calvo also believes he will need to be able to work with bishops all over the world in order to keep unity within the church and be able to govern accordingly.
