RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northern Nevada has reached their financial goal of awarding $1 million in scholarships to area students.
The non-profit organization started in 2000, and has awarded scholarships each year to college-bound students who need financial assistance. Recipients are selected from a pool of northern Nevada applicants who meet academic achievement, financial need and commitment criteria.
On Friday, the non-profit organization awarded scholarships to 37 first-year recipients at a ceremony. "It's important because it gives me the opportunity to see how much help is out there, to see myself and other recipients succeed, and see a better future in life," said recipient Jasmine Landa.
By the end of 2014, 650 students will have received scholarships from the program.
