RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A local developer wants to build new condos near a beloved Reno landmark and now it's up to the City Planing Commission to approve the project.
Silverwing Development wants to build a condominium with 330 plus units right across the street from Virginia Lake.
The new condos would be called Edgewater at Virginia Lake and would be located on the southwest corner of Eastshore Dr. and Lymbery St.
The Virginia Lake Apartments are already in the area. The company wants to revamp those apartments and build around them.
One News 4 viewer was concerned a portion of the sidewalk on Virginia Lake would be removed because of the project, but we confirmed no sidewalks would be destroyed just realigned.
"This project went through the neighborhood advisory board and they were pretty positive about the recommendations," City of Reno Community Development Director Fred Turnier says.
He says part of the process of the Planning Commission is to determine any problems the proposed project may have within the community.
Turnier says the public is encouraged to come to the City of Reno Planning Commission meeting on the Thursday, November 7 at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
There will be time for public comment.
