Reno, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A local veteran was handed the keys to a new car tonight, July 26, 2013 courtesy of NAPA Auto Care Centers in the Reno-Sparks area.
Luke Titus served as an Army Specialist for four and a half years and was deployed to Iraq for 15 months. Since returning home, he and his family have struggled with transportation.
"It means the world to me, you have no idea, we didn't have a car big enough to fit the family so this is gonna help me get the family to places all at once," said Titus.
Several Local NAPA Auto Care Centers worked together to give Luke and his family a 2000 Ford Expedition, an SUV, fit for the whole family. David Finley, the owner of NAPA Auto Care Centers says, "If everybody in the community would do something like this, ya know, it would be a lot better."
David Finley along with the rest of the Auto Care Center owners say they were glad to help. Shari Pheasant with "A Master Mechanic" says, "I think he resembles a lot of vets that just want to be helped they want to be supported and ya know, there's a lot of things they see over there that really affects their brain and their heart and we have to support their recovery."
While Luke was serving in Iraq he missed the birth of this son and many other precious memories with his growing family and he says his homecoming was rough, "When I came home for R&R I was treated very poorly. I flew 36 hours and when I landed in Texas I got spit on."
Luke says the generosity of the NAPA Auto Care Centers makes up for that bad treatment. Luke's wife, Ashley recently lost her grandmother and says she believes this car is a sign that her grandmother is watching over her family, "It's amazing to know that we have people around that can just do stuff like that for people in the community and we're so grateful to be the family that was able to get such an amazing gift."
