RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Locally-grown produce is on its way to summer meal programs in Washoe County.

As part of the Free Summer Meals program for children, organizers served fresh zucchini grown in Yerington at free lunches throughout Washoe County. Low-income children who depend on free meals at school do not have that opportunity during the summer when school meals are not available.

About 47-percent of students in the school district qualify for free lunch at school.
