RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Thousands of burritos were unloaded from a truck at Catholic Charities on Thursday to help feed the hungry in our area.
California-based MCI Los Cabos gave away $95,000 in food to the Nevada Department of Agriculture. The donation included more than 200,000 frozen burritos and enchiladas, and more than 8,000 pounds of ground beef.
The food will provide about 16,000 meals to those in need around the Reno area.
"All the partners have provided a tremendous amount of resources for those in need," said Department of Agriculture Director Jim Barbee. "That being said, we still have over 16-percent of the population of Nevada that need meals every day."
"We're making great strides, but we're not there yet. So, to have a donation com in from Los Cabos, it's tremendous, it's significant," Barbee added.
The Nevada Department of Agriculture, Catholic Charities, and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada facilitated the charity event.
