FERNLEY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Lyon County buildings in Fernley were locked down or evacuated due to three suspicious boxes left at the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Fernley Sub-Station.

Lyon County Sheriff's Office says one box was located near the sub-station’s fence and the other two boxes were located inside the parking lot area near a trash dumpster. Due to the suspicious nature of these packages, all surrounding county and city facilities were either locked down or evacuated.

NAS Fallon Bomb Squad, along with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad, responded and assisted with determining the contents of the package. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad used an x-ray to determine that the contents in the suspicious boxes were only books that appeared to have possibly been left for the Lyon County Library, which is located to the south of sheriff’s sub-station.

At this time it is unknown why the suspect(s) went through the trouble to force entry into the Lyon County Sheriff’s Fernley Sub-Station to leave boxes of books.

This is still an ongoing investigation into the identity of those responsible for entering a secured law enforcement facility parking lot. Anyone having any information is encouraged to contact Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900 or the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at (775) 577-5023.
