SPARKS, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- Golden Eagle Regional Park in Sparks is playing host to a major Western Regional softball tournament.

The tournament features 125 teams from every state west of Colorado stepping up to the plate for a chance to win the Triple Crown Sports Open Western World Series. Sluggers under the age of 12 began tournament events this past Monday, with the official first pitch coming on Tuesday.

Triple Crown COO Keri King said the tournament will have major economic implications for the area. "You're looking at an event that has somewhere in the area of 6,500 room nights, and about 6,000 people coming to the community. It relates to about a $4 million impact to the area for the seven-day event."

This is the 18th year of the Triple Crown Sports Tournament. The championship game is set for Saturday evening.
