Man Found Dead in VA Hospital Parking Lot

This is the type of reporting that drives me crazy about Reno news. Was there a gun present? If not it couldn't have been self inflicted unless he shoot himself someplace else then drove himself there. Was he ever identified? Here we are how many weeks later and have yet to hear another word on this death. Was he even a veteran? Just the location my lead us to believe that but where is the follow up?

@Threadkiller, why should a retired disabled vet have to buy additional insurance, thats not the deal. The deal is that the VA needs to spend money on staffing and stupid websites and storage facilities. With over 3,000,000 new veterans coming into the system the VA has put a freeze on hiring levels. How does that make sense. I'm glad you've got through the system so well. I wish my amuputated foot and the rest of me could; five months to see a specialist for nerve damage, yep thats really good care.

To Leah, what your going to see is more of the same kind of treatment to normal folks under the Obama Mandatory Health Care dibocle. Instead of just Veterans waiting months now so will the rest of the country. Just ask Canada how well there plan is working.

diggerdoug, You obviously don't go to the VA because if you did, you'd know the VA doesn't have Security. As a matter of fact, the VA has it's own Police Department. And they did hear/see something. That's why they responded. The one or two VA Police Officers on duty have to patrol all VA facilities in Northern Nevada. The hospital is only one VA facility in Reno. There are four more just in Reno alone, not counting the VA homeless shelter on Capital Hill, the Mental Facility on Plumas, the Eye Clinic on Wells, the Drop in Center on Rock. Then theirs the facility in Minden and two in California. Thats alot for two officers to patrol. Maybe you should ask congress to allow the VA to hire more Police Officers to help protect Veterans. So yea, Sorry they couldn't be right at that spot the minute the victim died.

I agree with Threadkiller. My husband is a Veteran and while I agree that things could be better, they are doing the best they can. If you don't like it than change it. My husband is currently in school for Social Work. He plans to work for the VA and get some programs in place to make things better. He found a problem with the system and now he is going to do something about it. The simple truth is, we don't know what happened. All we know is that a man was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in a VA parking lot. We don't know if he was a Veteran, we don't know if he shot himself, or if someone else shot him. This isn't the fourm for airing your complaints about the VA.

It's ridiculous to blame the VA for this death without knowing ANY facts. I've been under care there for a chronic, serious ilness for nearly five years, and I have no complaints. I get prompt, appropriate and up-to-the-minute treatment and on the two occasions I've had to be hospitalized, the nursing staff was excellent. If you don't like the VA, you're always free to buy private insurance and find care somewhere else.

I go to the VA Hospital alot through the years, and I am really surprised that the VA security that patrols the area didn't see or hear something. OH, they were on there coffee break.

We don't know if this man was a Veteran yet. Can we forget the for Obama against Obama argument? A man died... Democrats and Republicans all look the same when they are dead. My thoughts go out to this man and his family. Dasgeiss... obviously someone else called and reported it.

It's amazing that the police could receive a telephone call from a deceased man in his car!
