Man accused of leading Sparks Police on a chase and ramming into their vehicle

SPARKS, Nev. (SPARKS POLICE NEWS RELEASE) - On September 29, 2013 at approximately 0913 hours the Sparks Police Department responded to a report of a possible DUI driver that had struck a guard rail on the freeway and was speeding through the residential streets of Sparks. The reporting person observed smoke coming from the suspect’s tire and the bumper coming off the vehicle while it travelled through Sparks. Sparks Police Officers located the vehicle in the 100 block of Prater Way. A Sparks Police Officer attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver fled in the vehicle into a cul de sac. The driver turned around in the cul de sac and drove toward the Officer’s vehicle, striking the front of the Sparks Police vehicle. The vehicle continued to flee from Officer’s forcing the Officer’s to use their vehicles to stop the suspect vehicle.

Once the suspect vehicle was immobilized, the suspect ran from Officer’s and was apprehended a short distance from the scene.

The Sparks Police Officers were not injured. The suspect had minor injuries and received medical treatment prior to being transported to the Washoe County Jail. The suspect was identified as Christian Valencia, a 21 year old Reno resident. Christian Valencia was charged with Battery with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer, DUI second offense, Obstructing, and Failure to Yield to a Police Vehicle. Valencia is being held on $25,750.00 bail.
