SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- An out-of-town visitor is behind bars for allegedly raping and beating a woman who police say he promised to help.
Sparks Police say 43-year-old Randy Flores Jr., an Arizona Resident, contacted the victim at a homeless shelter and offered her food and a warm place to stay. When she went with Flores, police say the victim was brutally beaten with his fists and a frying pan, and raped and held against her will with duct tape on her mouth on Friday night.
Evidence of the assault was found at an apartment on the 1900 block of Hymer Avenue.
News 4 spoke to a neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous in fear of retaliation. He says Flores arrived in Sparks last week to stay with Flores' brother. The neighbor did not suspect Flores to be violent, and even shared beer with Flores and showed him around local casinos.
Neighbors did not report hearing any commotion the night of the attack, stating only a washing machine could be heard and the woman was never seen on the property.
Sparks police reported that the woman was found on an RTC bus on Saturday. The RTC clarifies that the woman took route 18 to the Downtown Reno 4th Street Bus Station shortly after midnight.
RTC Safety Administrator, Rob Reeder, says the woman did not arouse suspicion when boarding the bus because she was wearing glasses and did not interact with anyone on the bus.
Once at the bus station, Reeder says the woman used a Code Blue telephone to call security. RTC security administered first-aid and shelter for the woman until REMSA arrived to transport her to a local hospital.
The RTC has provided copies of surveillance video of the bus station and coaches as Sparks Police continue their investigation.
Flores is charged with sexual assault, kidnapping, and battery with substantial bodily injury and strangulation.
He's being held without bail at the Washoe County Jail.
