RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Detectives with the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit, along with the United States Marshal Service and the Reno Police Department, located David Christian Ashby, 52, at the 7-11 Motor Lodge, 465 W. 2nd Street, Reno after he had failed to register as a sex offender in the area.

Ashby, a convicted sex offender and deemed a sexually violent predator, has been in the Reno area for over a year without registering with local law enforcement. Ashby is believed to be out of Utah where an active warrant was issued for him for failing to register there as a Sex Offender.

Ashby admitted to detectives that he didn't register in Reno because of his outstanding warrant from Utah. Ashby was cooperative when located, police say.

Ashby was transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility and booked for the felony charge of Sex Offender Failing to Register (2nd offense). His bail has been set at $10,000. Ashby is also being held as a fugitive on the outstanding warrant from Utah.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSONU at 353-2244, Monday thru Friday, 7am to 5pm, or Secret Witness.
