WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (AP) — A 28-year-old man has been sentenced for the beating death of another man near Winnemucca last year.

Sixth District Judge Michael Montero imposed the maximum sentence Wednesday on Matthew Krieger for the April 2012 death of 44-year-old Michael De La Rosa in Grass Valley.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports Krieger earlier pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and aiding/abetting kidnapping, both felonies. He was sentenced to 48 to 120 months in prison for one count and 72 to 180 months for the other. The terms will run consecutively.

Krieger is accused of picking a fight with De La Rosa and knocking him unconscious with one punch. Investigators say Krieger then punched him in the head at least 10 more times while the victim was on the ground defenseless.
